Kevin M. Coonan, M.D.
Dr. Coonan earned his bachelor’s degree at Creighton University and his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the Madigan Army Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center. He currently holds positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery and as an Attending Physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Emergency Medicine and is a National Library of Medicine Fellow in Medical Informatics at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Dr.Coonan’s numerous academic interests include wilderness medicine, travel medicine, emerging infectious diseases, medical management of chemical and biological terrorism, use of information systems for decision support and medical error reduction, and use of simulation-based crisis resource management training for emergency medicine and critical care.
His personal interests include mountaineering, technical rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, downhill/backcountry skiing, cooking, ecology and environmental sciences. He resides in Salt Lake City, UT with wife Sarah Ann and daughters Rebbeca Claire and Hannah Catherine.
