Louis Leff, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Louis Leff MD, FACP, a Pittsburgh internist, earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Pittsburgh and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, later receiving certification in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and ACP Fellowship. He currently holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Leff has great interest in medical computing. He is the original creator of the Internet homepages of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) as well as the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He serves as the Web master for numerous other medical organizations. Additionally, he is the author and programmer of MedCalc 3000, an evidence-based medicine computing tool in STAT!Ref online, and offered online as a subscription service.
A national leader in medical education, Dr. Leff was twice elected to the board of directors of the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) and also served on the APDIM governing council 1998-2001. Leff currently co-chairs the APDIM E-Services committee.
Dr. Leff has twice served as Visiting Professor of Medicine at the Maizuru Hospital, University of Kyoto, Japan in 1999 and 2001. He has also served as the Rabiner Visiting Professor at the Legacy Health system in Portland, Oregon in 1999. He often lectures on the roles and limitations of computers in medicine. He has made regular presentations at national meetings, usually in the fields of medical computing, medical education and quality in medicine.
The American College Physicians presented Dr. Leff the Laureate Award in October 2003. The Laureate Award honors Fellows and Masters of ACP who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to excellence in medical care, education, research, and service to their community.
