Additional Details
The third edition of this popular quick reference guide delivers practical, action-oriented clinical solutions to use during or between patient encounters.
Coverage spans nearly 200 areas of current pediatric care—everything from abdominal pain and asthma to failure to thrive and fever of unknown origin to pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
The authoritative AAP content is presented in a concise bulleted format to quickly help you locate information.
Regardless of the patient presentation you’re confronted with, you’ll have quick access to the help you need to:
- • Efficiently evaluate signs and symptoms, including emotional and behavioral problems.
- • Order screening/diagnostic tests.
- • Implement evidence-based intervention strategies.
- • Prescribe safe and effective medications.
- • Recommend proven prevention measures.
Within the preface, the editor in chief describes this book as beneficial to "everyone taking care of children," and I would agree. While he specifically identifies pediatricians, pediatric residents, and medical students, this book would similarly be helpful for family medicine and emergency providers as well. While the topics covered may not be exhaustive for pediatric medicine, they are extremely high yield. The compilation of three different and highly esteemed pediatric resources makes this title a very credible resource.
Doody's Review
"Overall, this book is a beneficial text that compiles multiple pediatric resources produced by the American Academy of Pediatrics into brief, bulleted summaries. The best use of this book is "on the go" between patient encounters or for a quick refresher. This update from the previous edition is necessary due to the ever-changing nature of medicine and specifically pediatric medicine."
-- Lauren Ferrell, MD (Wesley Family Medicine Residency) Doody's Review
"In sum, this is an extraordinarily helpful, practical, concise, go-to resource for busy pediatric providers. It covers an extensive list of varied topics, signs, and symptoms and is written in a manner that likely will make it a trusted real-time resource. The easy-to-read style lends itself to a wide audience, from beginning students to practiced providers, and no doubt pediatric, family medicine, and med-peds providers alike will find it incredibly useful. Lastly, this second edition benefits from an even more streamlined approach, and the updated information, as well as expanded mental health, behavioral, and psychiatric topics, are much-needed additions."
-- Maria Alkureishi, MD (University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine) - Doody's Review - Previous edition
"This book will certainly be useful as a quick reference for busy pediatricians and family practice physicians to guide initial management and plan therapy for their patients."
