The Joint Commission is all about performance improvement (PI). It actively promotes and requires health care organizations to continuously improve their performance--and thereby improve the quality and safety of patient care. Although there is just one standards chapter in the accreditation manuals that are specific to PI, all the standards actually promote and support PI.
